Product FAQs

What happens if the system runs out of water?

The Knox system automatically shuts down if the water level runs too low, with no adverse effect on the engine. However, when the system is not generating Hydrogen, the fuel efficiency benefits will not be realized. The system is equipped with sensors that alert the operator to refill the water, helping to maintain optimal fuel savings.

How much electrical power does the system require?

The power demand of the Knox system is tuned to optimize Hydrogen production for maximum fuel savings. The system draws between 12 to 45 amps at its peak and is designed to operate at 12 +/- 2 volts.

Does the system draw electrical power when the engine is not running?

The Knox series systems are designed to start and shut down with the engine. They do not operate in standby mode but can quickly ramp up Hydrogen production as soon as the engine starts again.

What is the operating temperature range of the Knox systems?

The Knox series systems are designed to operate in ambient temperatures ranging from 1 to 60 degrees Celsius. We also provide solutions for sub-zero environments upto -25 Deg C, to ensure the system can function even in freezing conditions. We are yet to test the system for sub zero environment, but theoretically our system can handle temperatures much below zero.

How does Hydrogen affect the engine?

The introduction of Hydrogen results in a cleaner engine due to reduced soot. The Knox systems build on the legacy of the earlier models developed by founder Gavan Knox. These earlier systems have accumulated millions of kilometers of service with no reported negative impacts on any engine.

Does the system affect cold or hot starting or motor shutdown?

No, the Knox systems do not affect the starting or shutdown of the engine, regardless of temperature.

What happens if the unit gets too hot?

The Knox system is designed to monitor internal temperatures, including water and unit temperatures. If these temperatures fall outside the optimum operating range, the system automatically stops all Hydrogen production and does not resume until optimal conditions are restored.

Can the vehicle or plant operator alter the settings of the unit?

No, any changes and maintenance must be performed by KiTech trained personnel to ensure the integrity and safety of the system.

How long does it take to install the Knox system?

The installation time can range from 4 to 12 hours depending on the application. We are currently working to streamline the installation process before our official launch at the end of 2023.

 What is the warranty period?

The Knox system comes with a 1-year warranty, provided that it is correctly installed and maintained according to the prescribed maintenance schedule.

What is the expected life of the unit?

With proper maintenance and the exclusive use of distilled water to prevent contamination, the Knox unit should provide up to 10 years of service.

What kind of maintenance is required for KiTech Knox Systems, and how often?

KiTech Knox Systems are robust and generally require minimal maintenance. An initial service is recommended at 3 months, followed by regular servicing every 6 months. The maintenance may include cleaning of the tank and electrolyser to eliminate any impurities that could clog the system and reduce efficiency. Additionally, parts like pumps may need to be replaced if they fail. Should our system sensors detect a potential failure, additional service may be required. It’s essential to note that maintenance should be carried out only by authorized or trained personnel, ensuring the continued high performance of the system.

Will fitment impact on the truck’s warranty from the manufacturer?

Generally, no. However, this can depend on the manufacturer of the engine. In the USA, the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) protects customers from having their warranties voided due to aftermarket parts unless the manufacturer can prove that the part caused or contributed to a failure. However, there are local laws that mandates prior approvals and KiTech will ensure that those approvals are in place before we go commercially in that country.

Will fitment affect insurance cover for the truck, generators, etc?

Normally, no. But if that is needed, KiTech will obtain all necessary approvals before launching, ensuring compatibility with all heavy transport, including vehicles carrying hazardous goods.
